Pulling Curtains Gently: Does Constellating Systems have a Heart for Complex Trauma?

You will witness and hear how I work with my change seekers in one-on-one, partner, and group sessions, both online and in person. Addressing an individual’s complex trauma benefits from the support of a “systemic village.” Communal holding is profoundly useful when insurmountably painful imprints of early biographical wounds emerge. Their emergence can be met with presence, tenderness, and firmness in equal measure, offered by the facilitator and the “village circle.” Facilitator guidance gently pulls back the curtains from hidden, belligerent, or collapsed survival parts. In doing so, we must avoid re-traumatization by including creative systemic tools when complex trauma arises.

All present in the process need to tread lightly. Issues may reach back to times when nourishment, protection, and guidance in a change seeker’s life were scarce, violated, or altogether missing. Routinely, survival parts resort to
outdated responses: getting through, colluding, (partially) dissociating, and more. For such times, I will share numerous tools and ways of treading lightly: attunement, preparing with initial trauma mapping, use of language and voice, trust-forming comportment, metaphors and stories, procedural pacing, spacing and choosing, creative representation, and more.

Note: This way of constellating is not beholden to classical psychotherapy; albeit, it is profoundly therapeutic. We engage everyone in the “village circle” as resourced temporary witnesses in service of mending community through communal mending—one change seeker at a time.

Short Bio:

Karin Dremel, m.t.s.

For the last 35 years, I have studied constellating, facilitated for 25 years, and taught (my ever-evolving work) for 22 years. Learning from many first-generation teachers has been a privilege and was profoundly formative. My constellator skills are enriched by numerous other schools of thought and study: I am a Licensed German Healing Practitioner (HP), certified in Acupuncture (1993-1995) and Rolfing® (1998-2000), trained in Sensorimotor Therapy (1993-1995), and have extensively apprenticed in Social Trauma, guided by Anngwyn St. Just (CCST 1995-2001), and counting. This array of skills was further integrated (2010-2017) while earning a Bachelor in Social Sciences at MSU Denver and a Master’s in Theological Studies at Iliff School of Theology, Denver. The confluence of apprenticing in personal trauma while developing Systemic (Trauma) Imagination continues to guide my delight and passion for constellating. Since 2022, this self-taught multimedia artist has leaned into artistic talent to develop a visual storytelling tool, which I named constellaging℠; a contemplative form of self-paced, emergent constellating.

Becoming A Bridge: Working With The Inner-Child and The Higher-Self in Systemic & Family Constellation

The Inner-Child

“In the liminal space between the inner-child and the higher-self lays trauma”

As a Constellations Facilitator and Trainer working in different cultures and communities, I have noticed a common thread; there is often a rift between one’s adult-self and their younger and more vulnerable inner-part that is still echoing the pain and anxieties of a traumatic past.
Experiencing such inner reality affects many aspects of one’s life; here are a few examples:

  • The state of one’s health and well-being
  • When parenting
  • One’s self-worth
  • The way one ‘shows up’ in the world
  • One’s professional stance (particularly in the ‘helping field’)
  • In all forms of relating to others
  • One’s relationship with money

Such powerful and mostly unconscious inner-dynamics are often appearing when in one is in a close, intimate relationship. It may also show in one’s professional realm and beyond.
Suffering from depression is linked to early life experiences that can be helped by engaging in this deep healing process. Illi will be presenting aspects of his unique, experiential work – the Consciousness-Centered Therapeutic Process™️ and the powerful HypnoConstellations™️ processes that he developed and teach to his students worldwide.

The Awakening Triangle – The Inner-Child / Higher-Self / Consciousness

Over years of observation a clear link is becoming visible between one’s own spiritual evolutionary journey and one’s relationship with the Inner Child. This link will be our starting point for the session.

The Work Format

During the workshop, each participant will have the opportunity to open up a new ‘channel’ of learning and healing with the new tools and approaches offered. I will be guiding the entire group through a process of safely attending to the longing of the delicate, younger inner-part of themselves.
Join us for a profound healing/learning experience, bring your intention and learn to become a bridge connecting your Higher-Self through healing the wounds of the Inner Child, no matter how hard his/her childhood experiences were.

Navigating Relationships

“Navigating Relationships” is an experiential workshop exploring the unseen dynamics that shape how we relate to ourselves, our partners, our families, and those who came before us. Through the lens of Family Constellation Therapy, we create a safe and embodied space to uncover inherited patterns, release entanglements, and restore flow in connection.

Together, we also explore the cultural narratives we carry the unspoken stories around love, loyalty, identity, and belonging that influence how we show up in relationships. These collective beliefs often shape our choices more than we realise, and this workshop offers space to gently examine, honour, and (if needed) redefine those inherited stories.

This session invites insight, compassion, and the possibility of relating with more awareness, freedom, and heart across generations, cultures, and systems.

Structure
The workshop will be seated in a circle to foster connection, safety, and shared presence. We begin with a grounding meditation and move between personal constellation work, group activities, and shared reflection. The space is held with care, allowing participants to witness, engage, and process at their own pace.
Process
We begin with a guided meditation to ground the group and open the relational space. The workshop flows between a group activity that supports connection and awareness, and a personal constellation session facilitated for one participant. This rhythm allows the group to engage together, then witness or participate in deeper individual work. Each part of the process invites insight, presence, and the possibility for gentle shifts in how we relate to ourselves and others.
Steps
1. Welcome, group agreements, and check-in.
2. Guided meditation and body awareness practice.
3. Group activity: exploring relational roles or boundaries through movement or shared inquiry.
4. Invitation for participants to bring forward a relationship theme or issue.
5. Facilitated constellation processes using group representatives.
6. Integration: reflection, journaling, or group sharing.
7. Closing ritual or karakia to honour the work and the field.

Personal Message from John and Jo Palareit

Tēnā koutou,
We are writing to express our enthusiasm and interest in running a workshop at the ISCA Gathering in Mexico. We believe that our experience and dedication to Family Constellation Therapy align perfectly with the goals and values of the ISCA community, and we would be honoured to contribute to this prestigious event.

We are from Aotearoa New Zealand and are excited about the opportunity to bring our expertise and passion to the ISCA Gathering. With 26 years of navigating life together, we have gained a profound understanding of the complexities and beauty of relationships. Our workshop is designed to harness this experience, focusing on the diverse cultural narratives that shape our lives and relationships. We aim to create a transformative space where participants can explore and heal intergenerational and cultural patterns, fostering deeper connections and understanding.

The theme “Embracing All Cultures Across Time” resonates deeply with us. Our workshop will emphasise cultural awareness, sensitivity, and healing across generations, with a particular focus on the impact of cultural narratives on personal and interpersonal relationships. The workshop will emphasise understanding how the stories, traditions, values, and beliefs passed down through different cultures influence the way individuals perceive themselves and relate to others. This includes exploring how these cultural narratives shape personal identities, behaviours, and the dynamics within relationships, both within the family and in broader social contexts. We believe that this approach will provide participants with valuable tools and insights to strengthen and enrich their relationships through cultural understanding.
We look forward to contributing to a vibrant and transformative event.

Moving from Separation to Community: A Systemic Ritual Workshop

For most of us, our cultures in the Western world are ones of separation and often isolation. As human connection is essential for survival, we know that it’s not the way it’s supposed to be; it’s not what promotes longevity, and it’s not what humanity needs at this point in history. For at this moment of time, the bigger shift is towards collaboration over competition, unity over division and community over separation.

In this workshop, Meghan will focus on collective rituals, or collective constellations using the method Systemic Ritual®. In a traditional family constellation, one person brings an issue to constellate (the Issue Holder), whereas in Systemic Ritual, we are all Issue Holders together as we will work collectively.

Often using the Wheel of the Four Directions (a version of a medicine wheel), participants will have the opportunity to work issues of separation vs. community individually, yet together. This work presents a different angle to traditional constellation work and is part of the paradigm shift we are living now that invites us to return to ancient indigenous practices as we create a deeper and new sense of community.

Short Bio.

Born and raised in Colorado, USA Meghan has discovered, trained and developed her Constellation work abroad, in both Latin America and Europe. She will join us from Belgium to share her approach, which is seeing Constellations as ceremonial and a means for healing in community.

Meghan has been facilitating since 2013 and has gained a rich background of knowledge from a variety of teachers around the world, including Anngwyn St. Just (USA), Maria Crespo (Spain), Anni Schuff (Argentina), Pia Kalhof (Norway) and Daan van Kampenhout (Germany), the developer of Systemic Ritual®. As a Systemic Ritual facilitator, she incorporates elements of ritual into her Constellation work and teaches two levels of working with the Wheel of the Four Directions. Meghan is also a Supervisor for Constellators, host of the monthly event “Stories from the Field” and the Creator of AstroConstellation™, a blend of Constellations and Astrology. Completing Our Interrupted Reaching Out Movement to Father

Every child has a natural instinct to move into their father’s sphere as they begin to explore the world. Yet, that movement is often interrupted by the child’s mother or other family members who block them from going to their father or prevent them from coming into his sphere. Sometimes the father prevents his children from coming close. We have found that this interrupted movement is often behind addictions, challenges in relationships, and the ability to develop a sense of value and strength in the world. To help ourselves and others, we will explore how to complete this movement and clear the path for children to stand in their father’s sphere.
